From the marketing desk:
The one thing with the new facebook page design is that it can get a bit busy and at times overwhelming. Happily there are some additional features that benefit in promoting content on your facebook page.
Pinning
While we are all now used to pinning on pinterest, facebook has its own pinning tool which allows you to highlight past content, this is great if you are running a promotion or advertising a specific product or course information. Pinning a past post will automatically move it to the top of your page where it will remain for 7 days
To pin a post move your cursor over the top right hand corner of the post, two boxes will appear, one a star (Highlight – more later) and one a pen (Edit or Remove)
To pin click on the pen and choose “pin to top” which will automatically add the post to the top of the page.

Once pinned the post will then show an orange flag in the top right-hand corner, the exact same process can reverse it.

Do note
- Once pinned, the post does not show up again in news feed but instead becomes more visual at the top of the page
- You can only pin your own posts not those posted from others
Not sure what content to pin, try for an interesting article or blog on your business, or maybe a poll/ question that got good feedback, remember it will stay there automatically for 7 days before returning to its original posted date, unless you return it at an earlier date
Highlighting
Highlighting is perfect for those important posts, especially a good visual one, by highlighting a post (move the cursor over the top right hand corner and click on the star) this will expand the post over two columns giving the post more “facetime” and attention.

To sum up, highlighting expands your post across the whole page/ two columns without changing its date, pinning moves a post to the top of your page, therefore both increase attention and viewing it just depends how you want to.
Note that you can’t highlight and pin the same post, its one or the other
Happy pinning and highlighting!!
